The Beaumont Hotel

The Beaumont, in London W1K 6TF, is a Mayfair hotel offering classy interiors, a gorgeous spa and an Antony Gormley-designed suite, Room, near Oxford Street, Selfridges and Duke Street.

In the area now termed as North Mayfair. That means perilously close to shabby Oxford Street but also happily near Selfridges and newly improved Duke Street, as well as the upmarket streets of Mayfair proper. Formerly an Avis Rent-a-Car garage, The Beaumont’s ground floor façade, with floor to ceiling steel casement windows, dates from 1927; the rest is entirely new, but masquerading as a hotel from roughly the same period. What distinguishes the façade, however, is very modern, yet entirely in keeping: Antony Gormley’s inhabitable sculpture Room, rising three storeys on the south wing. Commissioned by Corbin & King, Room is both a magnificent public artwork and an extraordinary one-bedroom suite, also created by Gormley.
